I have been trying to to write this blog all day but I came down with a severe migraine 😦 boo.
Anywhoo, enough about me and into the actual reason you are reading this entry! The in depth swatch fest of the new LORAC PRO Palette 2 and a quick comparison to the original palette.
As I mentioned in my First Impression video (video link below) this eyeshadow palette is the sequel to the original LORAC PRO Palette. Just like the original this palette contains 16 eyeshadows – 8 Matte & 8 Shimmer. The original palette stays true to warmer toned shadows with the exception of a few but the sequel is on a more of a cool toned kick with the exception of a few shadows. The great thing about the PRO 2 and the Original is that all of the shadows can be used wet or dry, are very long wearing, and can sub in for a liner. Both palettes are priced at $42.00 which makes each shadow come to $2.63 each (that is way cheaper than most drugstore shadows)!
The shadows are vibrant, pigmented, buttery, smooth, blend-able, & very versatile. As the first one the PRO 2 is in the same palette format with matte shadows being on the top row and the shimmer being on the bottom row (click the link below to enlarge picture). The PRO 2 comes in the same sleek packaging as the original palette, very compact and easy to travel with.
Comparison of PRO 1 & 2
MATTE SHADES IN BOTH PALETTES
Original Palette Top Row(Left – Right) Black, Espresso, Sable, Mauve, Lt. Pink, Taupe, Cream, White
PRO 2 Palette Bottom Row (Left – Right) Black, Charcoal, Navy, Plum, Nectar, Cool Gray, Lt. Brown, Buff
At first glance it looks like Cream and Buff shadows are quite similar but in reality Buff is more on the yellow tone side while Cream is a true beige cream. I do wish that Buff was a slight more pigmented but can be very build-able. My new favorite obsession in this palette is Nectar. This is a beautiful rosy peach shade that will work well with all skin tones. Matte shadows can sometimes come off as powdery but in this case the shadows are creamy. In my opinion all of the Matte shades differ enough to hold their own in each palette.
SHIMMER SHADES IN BOTH PALETTES
PRO 2 Palette Bottom Row (Left – Right) Cocoa, Jade, Silver, Chrome, Mocha, Rosé, Beige, Snow
Original Palette Top Row(Left – Right) Slate, Deep Purple, Garnet, Pewter, Lt. Bronze, Gold, Champagne, Nude
I have to say that even though I am a huge fan of a great matte shadow I am totally in love with the shimmer in both of these palettes. They are extremely pigmented, creamy, not a chunky shimmer, & just plain gorgeous. The only down side is that there is a bit of fall out but I can live with that. When I was doing the swatches for the shimmers I noticed that the Beige shade in the PRO 2 is quite similar (when swatched) to Nude, Champagne, & Lt. Bronze in the original palette. The Beige is not a spot on match but it is the only shimmer shadow I found to be a bit similar to another shadow in the original palette. My all time favorite shimmer from this palette has to be Rosé. It is such a pretty gold rose shade that pairs great with Nectar & Plum.
Bottom line: both palettes differ enough for any MUA or makeup enthusiast to own both with the exception of a few shades which to me look almost similar & with Black being the only true duplicate. You can create a great neutral eye with both palettes as well as a great dramatic eye look. Now if you don’t ever think you will use a Navy, Plum, Silver, or Jade shade than I would stick with the original palette unless you want to be a bit adventurous then you need to have both in your collection!
The LORAC PRO Palette 2 is currently available online at ulta.com and launches in store on June 29th, 2014!
